We chose the name Daphne for our little girl for several reasons. Perhaps the most significant is that it's tied to the laurel tree in Greek mythology, and the laurel tree is a symbol of victory. Daphne is a crown of victory for us and for Jesus. We also both really like the way the name sounds, and we appreciate that it's not terribly popular so she's likely to not be in a kindergarten class with other Daphnes.
One of the cool side features of Daphne's name is that it ties her to her aunt Lauren, whose name also means laurel. We also chose Daphne's middle name, Ruth, after her grandma Ruth, who was named after her grandma Ruth.
All this to say, my mom and sister are two of the people I was most excited for Daphne to meet. They managed to wrap up their lives and hop on a plane to arrive in Baltimore just 32 hours after Daphne was born. And stay here for 10 days. Pretty impressive, and such a treat for our family!
